Our U10 boys finished the group stage of the Gerry Reilly Cup with an emphatic 3 nil victory against Lions in United Park. Thomastown got off to a great start when James Tierney set off on one of his powerful runs & was pulled down in the box to earn a penalty in the first minute. James picked himself up to convert the penalty. The home team were completely dominant & with Michael Kirwan running the show in midfield they created plenty of chances. Thomastown doubled their lead through James Tierney again when he burst into the box & scored off his left foot this time. Lions started to come into the game but goalkeeper Jack Moran made a good save to keep Thomastown 2 up at the break. The game was a more even affair in the second half but it was the home team who created most of the chances. Cillian Phelan was denied twice by the keeper when through on goal. James Tierney had several chances to complete his hat trick but was denied by good saves & the strong wind made matters more difficult. Lions threatened on the break but Alex Quinn was having an excellent game at the back & Jack Moran was rock solid in the goal. Thomastown got a third goal that their performance deserved when Sean Cottrell showed great skill & composure to finish with 8 minutes to go. The result means Thomastown finished second in the toughest group & have qualified for the quarter finals. Michael Kirwan & Alex Quinn had superb games today but man of the match goes to James Tierney who scored 2 & was a constant threat all day. Team - Jack Moran, Tristian Donald, Bobby Brennan, Padraic Lyng, Alex Quinn, Michael Kirwan, James Tierney, Jack Clifford, Danny White, Sean Cottrell, Cillan Phelan
