On Saturday our U12 Schoolgirls welcomed Granada FC, from Blackrock, Co. Dublin to United Park in the last 16 of the National Cup. Rain and wind swept across the pitch as the game started and proved hard on both teams. Judging by the away teams form in the Competition so far the girls knew they were in for a tough match and this proved to be the case as Granada had the better of the first half play with Thomastown happy to go in 0-0 at half time, mainly due to the outstanding form of player of the match, goalkeeper Katie Davis.

The girls regrouped at the break and again like in the last round came out stronger in the second half. Midfield Powerhouse Sophie McCabe started to dominate the game, then with 10 minutes left Sophie produced a great run down the right wing, a quick pass into Emma Dempsey who picked out her strike partner, Lily Cullen, with a superb square ball to score the only goal of the game. For the second game in a row Lily proved to be the goal scoring hero for the girls.

In fairness to Granada they kept going till the end but home team girls were inspired on the day and nobody was going to stop them progressing to the next round. The girls are true warriors and doing the Club proud with their adventures. A big shoutout to all the supporters who turned up to watch the game.

Finally a massive congrats also to Joey and his coaches Ian and Paddy for having the girls prepared and focused for the big match.

Roll on the Quarter-finals!!!!!
