If you were lucky enough to have been in Graignamanagh today you would of seen what could easily be described as goal of the Season, but more on that in a bit.

Junior A side travelled to Graignamanagh to take on Highview this morning. What can only be described as a disastrous start we found ourselves 2 down after 8 minutes. Normally this would be the start of a day to forget but what happened next can only make it a day to remember. We knew we needed to do something or this game was going to slip very quickly out of our hands. On the 18th minute a free from the left hand side of their box saw Mark Delahunty float a wonderful free into the box to be met by the head of Podge Kirwan to give us some hope in the game. We created a few more chances in the first half and it looked like they weren’t going to work but up stepped Nathan Sherry to wrong foot the Highview keeper and put us level at 2-2 going into half time.

We knew we need to up the tempo in the 2nd half and continue the momentum we finished the first half with and it took Mark Delahunty just a minute to fire us in front for the first time in the game 3-2. Now that we were on top and limiting Highview's chances we had to put the game to bed. Now what we witnessed on the 68th minute would of been worth the entrance fee (there was no entrance fee !!) A lovely cross into the Highview box was met with the sweetest overhead volley by Steven Connolly into the back of the Highview goal (Remember Rooney’s v Man City in 2011, well this one was all foot and no shin) If there was an award for Goal of the Season, This goal would win it hands down!,

Now we found a little room between us and normally we would sit back and play out the game but not today (It was a local derby after all) , We kept pushing and on the 85th minute Adam Power was taken down in the box and up stepped Robert Skehan to fire us 5-2 in front and thats the way the game ended.

Player of the game from the Thomastown supporters behind myself has to go to young John McCarthy, We actually lost count of how many times he blocked down balls, won balls back and chased dead balls only to win them, had a chance of a goal also that went narrowly wide.

We got a scare at the start, settled ourselves down and put the game to bed. We don’t like doing things easy!
