Thomastown U10 boys won their shield match 1-0 at home on Saturday against Callan in the Jagger Wemyss Cup. The winner came with 2 minutes to go from Jack Donald who thumped home from Leon Phelan’s free kick. Callan played with a stiff breeze in the first half but keeper Borys Tylicki managed to keep them at bay with the help of defenders Adam Fitzgerald, Aadison Gibbons & Sean Hoyne. Thomastown were restricted to shots from distance from Leon Phelan. The home team took over in the second half & had plenty of chances to take the lead but couldn’t convert. Cian Lanigan was a constant menace for Callan but unusually for Cian he didn’t finish any of his chances. When Craig Walsh forced the keeper into a good save with 5 minutes to go it looked like nil all until Jack Donald made himself the hero with the late winner. It was a deserved win for Thomastown with Adam Fitzgerald superb at centre half but player of the match goes to Sean Hoyne who was excellent from start to finish.
