Thomastown United's annual St Stephens morning mature soccer match had a dramatic ending & also raising over €500 for 2 great charities. The game started at a fast pace with the players quickly realising they were on the wrong side of 50 instead of 20 with water breaks and rub downs needed every 15 minutes. There were very few chances in the first half but 2 minutes before the break the yellows forgot the offside rules have changed since they retired and John Shefflin ghosted in to meet Mcdowell's cross and give Lester no chance in goal to make it 1-0 at the break to the blues. After an injection of WD40 the yellow bellies came out raring to go and despite many chances it took a controversial penalty when a through ball by Cullen found the on rushing Brennan who was cruelly horsed out of it by Pat O’Neill (but was it inside or outside the box). VAR was required, the penalty given and Michael Sullivan's superb shot gave Hearne no chance in the goal. GAME ON !!!! now and with tiredness taking its toll there was a penalty shootout looming until those dramatic last few minutes. It started when the blues John Shefflins terrific shot was blocked by Lester only to fall to the onrushing Mcdowell who looked like he'd scored the winner but his powerful shot on an open goal somehow came back off the post. Play quickly switched to the other end and when Cullen's cross was helped on by Challoner, John “skinner”Skehan came out of the wilderness to score the winner with his first touch (he still doesn’t know where it hit him)

A great morning's entertainment and thanks for to all who supported Teams.
