Our U12 girls travelled to Curracloe on Saturday for their first game in the National cup. After having a great start to the season in the league the girls never really got going but still dominated possession without creating create any clear cut chances. Thomastown took the lead from a mistake in the home teams defence which centre forward Bella Quaglia pounced on to make it 1 nil. Ava Begley was causing Curracloe all sorts of problems on the left wing & it was from her shot on goal that Thomastown got their second. The Curracloe keeper made a good save from Ava's shot but Aoibhinn Kelly was on hand to tap in the rebound which left the score two nil at half time. The girls struggled to get their game going again in the second half & Curracloe pulled a goal back to ramp up the tension. With the away team completely dominating possession & territory they were always vulnerable on the break but defenders Lily Dimond & Ellen Davis who were led by the excellent Saoirse Roche did a brilliant job protecting keeper Mollie Cottrell. Thomastown got their third when Ava Begley's corner went straight in & wrapped up the game when Aoibhinn Kelly burst through the home teams backline & slotted home the fourth. Despite not playing as well as they have done already this season the girls still ground out a 4-1 victory which hopefully bodes well for the season. Player of the game goes to centre back Saoirse Roche who was rock solid throughout.
