Our Junior A side got their McCalmont Cup campaign off to a great start on cold and frosty Sunday morning. Our opponents Evergreen Fc B welcomed us onto the Kells Road for what proved to be a tough battle. The game was only 6 minutes old when Brian Staunton got his name on the score sheet with a well taken goal. Our lead didn’t last long when Evergreen equalised on the 12th minute. We knew we had a game on our hands. Just a mere 6 minutes later we got a free kick around 23 yards out and up stepped Kasper Konopka who made no mistake and put us back in front 2-1. A few more chances in the first half to extend our lead but we didn’t take them.

It wasn’t until the 66th minute when David Kavanagh put his body on the line and made a fantastic tackle which in the end let Kelvyn Skehan in one on one and of course Skehan made no mistake and put us 3-1 up. Should of been home and dry at this stage but Evergreen kept pushing and got their final goal of the game on the 71st minute which made a nervy finish to the game but our back 4 held solid and we go through to the next stage 3-2 winners.
