Thomastown United Under 12 A team were crowned league champions with two games to spare when they took on Freebooters AFC in the hallowed grounds of United Park. The boys took to the pitch like men on a mission and commenced proceedings at a blistering pace. Captain for the day Éanna O' Keeffe was on fire from the first whistle and got the boys in blue on the score sheet mid-way through the first half following from an impressive accurately placed pass from Seán Denieffe which O’ Keeffe controlled brilliantly to round the keeper and slot the ball home. Thomastown continued to play some great football and O’ Keeffe soon got his second following some super build up play from the boys in blue which gave Thomastown United one hand on the title going in at half time.
The boy’s passion and determinationcontinued to shine through in thesecond half with the whole team battling and putting on an impressive display of skill against a very strong Freebooters team who tried their best to make Thomastown wait for the title. Fortunately, the Thomastown men had other ideas and defended brilliantly and continued with their impressive work-rate all over the pitch even when Freebooters threw men forward. Freebooters got one back in the last ten minutes but this was not going to spoil the boy’s day. Thomastown showed through pride and maturity in their jersey with the whole squad putting in a sterling days work which resulted intriumphant scenes in front of the home crowd.
