Thomastown United under 13 A team continues to keep the flag flying for Thomastown United in the SFAI Sketchers Cup in what turned out to be a tense affair when they hosted Two-Mile Borris St. Kevin’s of Tipperary.

The Town meant business from the off and piled on the pressure on the Two – Mile Borris defence, but it was the away team that had the first shot at goal hitting the cross-bar minutes into the game.  Thomastown reacted to this attack with what was an unstoppable left foot shot across the keeper from the in-form Conor Kelly to put the boys in blue one up with five minutes gone on the clock.   Minutes later Colm Treacy had only one thing on his mind when he let fly with a shot against a strong wind from outside the eighteen-yard box which ended up in the back of the net.  With Thomastown being two goals to the good, this game was far from over.  Two-Mile Borris kept plugging away and eventually with seven minutes left in the first half, Alex Begley was unable to reach an incoming free kick which was from outside the box.

Half time saw the introduction of Darragh Dack and Óisin Farrell for the injured Colm Treacy and Albi Paul.  The boys started again on the front foot but were unable to stem the tide from the onslaught of Two- Mile Borris and eventually they equalised eleven minutes into the second half.  More substitutes followed with the re-introduction of Colm Treacy and Jamie Naddy for Darragh Coverdale and Conor Kelly in the hope of re-energising the Town’s attack.  Minutes later a master stroke was played on the side-line when Conor Kelly was reintroduced and from his first play left the away goalie watch the ball sail over his head.  With thirteen minutes left to play, this game still wasn’t put to bed.  Two-Mile Borris continued to attack which saw net minder Alex Begley pull off the save of the game.  Minutes left on the clock, captain for the day, Conor Monks pulled off a last ditch tackle when a Two-Mile Borris attacker was clean in on goal to secure the win for Thomastown
